Assaad el-Atat, PhD

Received B.A. and M.A. degrees in the social sciences from the Lebanese University and a PhD degree in Demography from the University of Paris I, Pantheon-Sorbonne. Had a distinguished university teaching career and is at present Professor at the Political Science Institute of the University Saint Joseph in Beirut.He directed many major surveys including the sample survey on living conditions in South Lebanon after its liberation, the census of taxable institutions done for the Lebanese Ministry of Finance, the national unemployment survey sponsored by the Lebanese National Employment Office, and others. He has many publications in the fields of demography, labor force, youth, women and the family.


George Kossaifi, PhD 

Received his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Bordeaux (France) an M.A. in Sociology from University of Lyon (France), and PhD in Demography from University of Paris I, Pantheon-Sorbonne. He has lectured or directed seminars in Universities and institutes in Lebanon, Iraq and Canada. But his major career has been at the United Nations, particularly the UN Economic Comission for Western Asia (ESCWA) where he worked, during his 30-year career there, as demographer, as manager of the Employment Promotion and Labor Market Development Program, and as Chief of the Human Development Section. He has extensive scientific writing in the fields of human development, poverty, labor migration and markets, the population of the Palestinian people and other social science subjects. 


Hala Naufal, M.A., Expert demographe

Ms. Naufal has a B.A. and M.A. in Social Sciences, both from the Lebanese University. She later obtained a Diploma in Demography and another Diploma as Expert Demographe both from the University of Paris, Pantheon-Sorbonne. She has had a long career in University teaching and is at present Professor of Population Studies at the Lebanese University. She also worked on numerous consultancies, particularly supervising major data collection activities and population analysis and research for the United Nations, the Lebanese government and major research institutions. She is widely published having to her credit 12 books and studies and scores of articles covering the various aspects of population in addition to major works of translation to Arabic of important demographic publications.


Samar El Yassir, B.A., Post Graduate Diploma

Received her B.A. in Public Administration from the American University of Beirut and a post-graduate diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation from the University of London. Since 1989 she has taken long-term and repeated short-term consultancies with multi-lateral and bi-lateral organizations including UNDP, UNRWA, ILO, DIAKONIA Medical Aid for Palestinians, Norwegian People's Aid, Movimiento por la Paz, el Desarme y la Libertad, Handicap International Belgium, and many others. She has carried assignments in various Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Bahrain, Iraq and Palestine. She has a number of publications on various aspects of disability and social development.
